French (African) Voice Over Artists
"African French" is a collective term used to describe the diverse varieties of French spoken in Africa. These varieties are influenced by the local languages and culture of each region. African French is spoken in over 20 countries, with an estimated 120 million speakers. Though these dialects are rooted in French and generally maintain the same grammatical structure, there are some differences in vocabulary, pronunciation, and occasionally syntax, compared to Metropolitan French, which is the French spoken in France.
One significant difference is the influence of local languages on the vocabulary of African French dialects. For instance, words from Wolof in Senegal, Bambara in Mali, or Lingala in Congo may be incorporated into the local French. The pronunciation can also differ, often reflecting the phonetics of local languages. In some regions, French is used as a second language and for formal situations, while local languages are used in daily life.
It's important to note that there's considerable diversity within African French itself. The French spoken in Morocco, for instance, will have different characteristics from the French spoken in Senegal or Côte d'Ivoire. This diversity reflects the many different cultural and linguistic influences across Africa.
