Cantonese is a variety of Chinese predominantly spoken in the Guangdong and Guangxi provinces in Southern China, Hong Kong, and Macau. It's also widely spoken among overseas Chinese communities, especially in Southeast Asia and major Western cities.

In the context of voiceover recordings, Cantonese is often used for media destined for regions where it's the dominant language. Given the significant cultural output of places like Hong Kong, where Cantonese is the main spoken language, it's quite common in movies, music, and broadcasting. Furthermore, because of differences between Mandarin and Cantonese in terms of pronunciation, tone, and sometimes even vocabulary and grammar, media originally in Mandarin will often be dubbed into Cantonese and vice versa.
